Situated on Lake Michigan, this project was designed for a family that loves to entertain. The goal was to create a multifunctional outdoor space that could host large gatherings while maintaining an intimate atmosphere for family moments. With a 60-foot-wide property and proximity to neighbors, the challenge was to maximize functionality and beauty without obstructing lake views, while achieving a California-inspired vibe in Michigan.

To meet the client’s vision, the design included upper and lower terraces, multiple fire pits, and distinct spaces for both adults and kids. By incorporating elements like a putting green, an outdoor kitchen, and a sleek bar, the space was tailored for year-round gatherings. The design team overcame challenges, such as a narrow 10-foot access point to the backyard, with careful planning and creative problem-solving. Every element was thoughtfully positioned to maintain lake views while ensuring privacy and comfort.

The Story Behind the Transformation

The property features illuminated Raffinato steps leading between terraces, creating seamless transitions. A "starlight ceiling" over the pool area adds drama and captures the client’s vision of bringing indoor-outdoor luxury to life. Mika pavers with integrated lighting provide a starry-night effect underfoot, enhancing ambiance throughout the space. Fire pits anchor multiple gathering areas, while a putting green, spacious parking area, and outdoor kitchen round out the design, making it perfect for entertaining on any scale.
