Blu 80 Slate Commercial Pavers

Commercial Pavers

This traditional paver is quite the looker. Blu 80 mm Slate is the thicker, stronger version of the Blu 60 mm slab, making it more appropriate for commercial, industrial and institutional projects where pedestrian traffic is relentless. Its slate texture gives it the feel of natural stone and makes it better suited for rustic and traditional aesthetic environments than its smooth and polished counterparts. This interlocking paver system is made up of three different formats that are palletized together, and that can be installed in both linear and modular motifs. The smallest of these formats — Blu 80 mm 6”x13” — can also be ordered separately to create stacked or running bond, herringbone, and parquet patterns. Add a little sophistication to your design by combining it with the other Blu 80 formats to create banding, inlays, or soldier courses. Blu 80 has an eco-friendly side too: it can be installed in a permeable application to help you reduce stormwater runoff responsibly and achieve LEED certification. A permeable base will not only contribute to reestablish natural water cycles but also help clear away melted ice and snow before it can refreeze, reducing the need for snow removal. This established classic is de-icing salt resistant and vehicle-friendly, making it a great choice for restaurant patios, parking lots, and any other commercial, institutional or industrial project.

How does Blu 80 Slate differ from Blu 60 Slate?

Blu 80 Slate is 80 mm (3⅛″) thick and engineered for vehicle traffic in driveways, while Blu 60 Slate is 60 mm (2⅜″) and designed for pedestrian applications like patios and walkways.

Are Blu 80 Slate pavers suitable for residential driveways?

Yes. Blu 80 Slate is built for vehicular use when installed on a properly compacted base.

How does Blu 80 Slate handle freeze-thaw cycles?

It complies with ASTM and CSA standards for freeze-thaw durability, ensuring reliable performance through repeated winter conditions.

Are Blu 80 Slate pavers resistant to de-icing salts?

Yes. They are manufactured to withstand de-icing salts. The warranty also covers abnormal surface damage caused by sodium chloride.

Can Blu 80 Slate be sealed to enhance color?

Yes, sealing is optional. It can deepen color tones, improve stain resistance, and simplify maintenance. Reapply every 3–5 years as needed.

Is Blu 80 Slate safe for power washing?

Yes, but use low pressure with a fan-tip nozzle and correct technique. Excessive pressure may damage the surface and void warranty coverage.

Is Blu 80 Slate ADA compliant?

What textures are offered in the Blu collection?

The Blu collection is available in three finishes, with select finishes offered in an HD² upgrade:
  • Smooth (HD² option available) – smooth and contemporary, giving a clean and modern design feel.
  • Slate (HD² option available) – textured with soft ridges and subtle variation, offering both traction and character.
  • Polished – a luminous, high-gloss surface that elevates outdoor settings with elegance.
Note: HD² upgrades deliver enhanced strength, improved resistance to the elements, richer and more stable colors, and precision surface detailing.

How much does a Blu 80 Slate driveway cost?

Pricing varies by driveway size, base preparation, and installation complexity. Estimate by square foot including pavers, aggregate base, and labor. For exact pricing, request a quote from a Techo-Bloc dealer or installer.

Does Blu 80 Slate require polymeric sand?

Yes. Polymeric jointing sand is recommended to stabilize joints and limit washout, following Techo-Bloc’s installation guidelines.

What type of base is needed for vehicular applications?

Prepare a compacted crushed-stone base: 6–10″ on sandy/gravel soils or 8–14″ on clay/silt soils, plus ~1″ of bedding layer on a properly compacted subgrade.

How is the Slate texture produced on Blu 80 Slate?

It is molded into the paver surface, with optional HD² technology providing a denser, more durable wear layer.

What installation patterns work with Blu 80 Slate?

Recommended patterns include Modular Pattern 01, Modular Pattern 02, and Linear Pattern 03.

Can Blu 80 Slate be installed over concrete?

Yes, if proper bonding and drainage methods are used, such as a drainage mat system or mortar bond.

Which Techo-Bloc pavers are best for driveways vs. patios or walkways?

Blu 80 Slate is recommended for driveways and high-load areas. For patios, walkways, and pool decks, Blu 60 slabs are the better option.

Regular Slate Texture

Regular Slate captures the authentic look of hand-split stone. Our standard mix highlights gentle ridges and natural variations in tone, offering a realistic stone texture that feels both timeless and refined.

HD² Slate Texture

HD² Technology enhances the Slate surface with a denser, finely detailed texture that absorbs significantly less water than Regular Slate finish. This minimizes surface wear over time while deepening color contrast, revealing richer and more dimensional stone tones compared to the softer look of a standard mix.
