As its name would suggest, Blu Grande is the largest of the slabs within the Blu product family. Its large size makes it well-suited for pedestal and rooftop applications, or deployment over vast pedestrian areas. This same characteristic also means that it has fewer joints per surface area than most precast concrete slab surfaces, a useful attribute for the designer looking to reduce visual noise to create a sleek, clean, contemporary look. These rarer, spaced-out joints, combined with Blu Grande’s smooth texture, make this large slab a comfortable and safe option for those of us with reduced mobility. Blu Grande Smooth is ADA compliant, an important factor to consider within any commercial or institutional project. Although often installed in a linear pattern, this smooth slab can be combined with other Blu formats to create a modular pattern or fashioned into a more personalized creation using the compatible Valet and Squadra pavers. Blu Grande is de-icing salt resistant, and its HD2 Smooth finish makes it long-lasting and easy to clean for those hotel and resort projects in which leisure and spills go hand in hand. What is the difference between a paver and a slab, using Blu 60 Smooth and Blu 80 Smooth as examples?

Blu 60 Smooth functions as a slab, perfect for outdoor living spaces such as patios and pool surrounds. Blu 80 Smooth is thicker and classified as a paver, built to perform in areas subject to vehicle loads.

How does the Smooth finish influence slip resistance?

Despite its refined surface, Blu 60 Smooth with HD² technology has been tested to ANSI A326.3 wet DCOF standards and provides safe footing, even around water.

Is Blu 60 Smooth ADA compliant?

For sandy or gravel soils, prepare a 4–6″ compacted aggregate foundation. On clay or silt soils, increase the base to 6–8″. Add roughly 1″ of bedding sand before placing the slabs.

What jointing sand should be used with Blu 60 Smooth?

Polymeric jointing sand such as Flexlock is recommended. Average joint width is about 7 mm (9/32″).

Which edge restraints are best for Blu 60 Smooth?

PVC, aluminum, or steel edging spiked every 8–10″ works well. For a more architectural finish, curbstones like Avignon or Pietra may also be installed with mortar or mechanical retention.
