Reimagining Tremblant’s Outdoor Experience

Before redevelopment, the Fairmont Tremblant’s main patio was dated and no longer matched the luxury guest experience inside the resort. The hotel needed a space where visitors could gather comfortably in every season, with surfaces safe under freeze–thaw cycles and de-icing salts.

The vision was to create a patio that would connect different public areas of the hotel, blending elegance with durability while ensuring year-round circulation. Built with Techo-Bloc’s Everest slabs in Chestnut Brown, the new patio reflects the refined design of the resort while standing up to the technical demands of alpine Quebec. It is now a welcoming extension of the Fairmont Tremblant experience, inviting guests to enjoy the outdoors in every season.

Guest Safety

Snow- and ice-free walkways (via hydronic heating) are non-negotiable in a ski-in/ski-out resort. Safety under winter conditions is top priority.

Environmental Exposure

Severe freeze–thaw cycles, heavy snow, ice, and de-icing salts demand materials that can endure without cracking, spalling, or discoloring.

Heavy Use

Thousands of guests, rolling carts, furniture loads, and event turnover mean the surface must withstand constant pressure and wear.

Low-Maintenance Durability

Important for operational costs and long-term appearance, but secondary to immediate safety, environmental performance, and structural durability.

Luxury Aesthetic

To meet the resort’s technical and aesthetic demands, the design team selected Everest HD² Slate in Chestnut Brown. This large-format slab combines the refined look of natural slate with the structural performance needed in an alpine environment.

Hydronic Heating Integration

60 mm profile and uniform thickness optimize compatibility with snow-melt systems, ensuring rapid ice clearance and stable installation.

HD² Surface Technology

Superior color retention, resistance to de-icing salts, and thermal shock performance under alpine conditions. High compressive strength supports heavy pedestrian use without surface degradation.

Slip-Resistant Surface

Micro-textured finish achieves a slip resistance rating of 0.81, exceeding industry standards and providing secure traction in wet and snowy conditions.

Visual Harmony

Chestnut Brown finish replicates natural stone, complementing alpine architecture and blending seamlessly into the mountain landscape.
