The art of designing joy into a landscape

Sawyer Hemsley co-founded Crumbl, the cookie chain built around surprise, delight, and the small details that make a moment memorable. When it came time to renovate his Utah property, that same instinct showed up in a different form: stone, arches, outdoor rooms, fire features, and moments of discovery built into the landscape. Designed by Loftsixfour, built by RobisonBuild, with paver work by MountainPoint Landscape, the project transformed a blank outdoor canvas into a property that feels personal, layered, and full of life.

Bringing personality to a backyard that had none

Before

Before the renovation, the backyard did not reflect the personality of the home or the homeowner. It lacked the kind of distinct, memorable feeling that Sawyer is known for creating in other parts of his life and work.

Loftsixfour changed that by creating several layers of discovery. The pool area alone functions like several spaces in one: outdoor kitchen, TV area, seating zones, firepits, slides, and tanning decks. Playful without feeling childish. Elevated without feeling stiff.

The challenge of making big feel personal

The design had to solve scale, grade changes, multiple zones, privacy, and circulation, all while keeping every space feeling connected and personal. The best work in a project like this is not in one dramatic feature, but in the transitions between them. The way a walkway leads to a courtyard. The way the pool feels active by day and atmospheric at night.

A property designed like an experience

Some landscapes are designed to be seen all at once. This one was designed to unfold. Arches frame views, walkways guide movement, courtyards create pause points. The challenge was scale: making a large property feel impressive but still intimate, expansive but still personal.

Materials that make the whole property feel connected

Squadra pavers bring texture and rhythm to the entry and walkways, while a checkered mix of Onyx Black and Shale Grey gives the sunken dining area instant allure. On the driveway, Westmount pavers laid in an intricate pattern set the tone before guests even reach the door.
